Sunday, 16 August 2009

The 2004 Land Rover Freelander primarily changes the appearance. Mechanically it is the same as the previous model.

If we take as a reference to the version that will be the best selling (diesel five-door), the relationship between price and equipment is in the middle. It is more expensive than the Koreans and somewhat less than the Japanese.

Benefits and consumption is also at an intermediate level in relation to other models of similar size and power. The diesel engine has displacement of 2 liters, 112 hp maximum power if you have manual, and if it takes 109 hp automatic transmission (called ‘ComandShift). It is an earlier version of the BMW Diesel Engine 1,950 cm³.

It does well in their field by traction system (simple but effective) and a height slightly greater than that of its competitors. On-road is smooth and the Diesel-engine loud.

Aid available electronic traction control is equivalent to self front and rear, and the help system decline HDC. Unlike the current Rav4, you can not have stability control on any version.

Design of the headlights is similar to that released the Range Rover. Change much the front bumper of the shape and decoration of inlets. Both bumpers are painted, which may give a better appearance but makes them more vulnerable to any scratches (in the field or in town). The pilots are positioned higher, which makes it less dirty.

The structure of the instrument panel is similar, but the design of the central part is different. Several controls and switches which have changed their site and the instrumentation is distributed differently.

The ability to pull the Land Rover Freelander has surprised me, especially considering that the tires were worn of mixed type, not particularly effective on clay.

The route was very muddy areas, but enough with the background sound that the Land Rover Freelander does not sink (the photos you see on this page are for this route).

In these circumstances, it was possible to move the Land Rover Freelander even at very low speeds. It was not necessary to cross the muddy areas with much inertia to avoid being stuck.

One of the reasons for the surprising ability to pull this good is because the total drive system is rather simple. Traction is a fully connected automatically through a viscous coupling, a system abandoned by any brand because it is more sensitive to warming than other types of traction total automatically.

The Land Rover Freelander is also a traction control that is equivalent to a self in the front and rear axles, the wheel slows down because more slip in traction.

Relative to a normal road, the Land Rover Freelander limitations (as with any other ground “light”) are more in the tires, suspension travel and headroom in the traction system.

In any case, for normal use of off-road, a car is satisfactory, no less effective than any other area of this type, but rather than, for example, the Honda CR-V and HR-V. To use a less normal field, Land Rover, there are other more appropriate.

There is the road Diesel Sport version, which has a lower suspension, it lasts the normal and also had a virtual road tires. The Sport version has a good agility, not many swings and falls well in the curves.

The diesel engine, without being a prodigy of strength, it responds well enough on the road. Sounds a lot, the speed limit on a journey gives more noise than engine power.
